"World Poetry Day 2024"

The Walls Tell
On 21 March, the first day of spring and World Poetry Day, the event ‘I muri raccontano’ (Walls Tell) was held in Salento, a typical Cilento village known as Poetry Town, in the name of beauty, art and poetry, aimed at celebrating one of the most beautiful and ancient forms of expression used by man. The event gave participants the opportunity to walk through the streets of the town to discover the many poems posted near the walls, exploring the beauty of the verses written by famous poets who were awarded in Salento on the occasion of the Cilento Poetry National Prize, born in 2017 from an idea by Menotti Lerro and supported by the municipal administration, whose reading was entrusted to the young students of the Liceo Classico Parmenide of Vallo della Lucania.

In Salento, a place rich in history and culture, it was also possible to admire the beauty of its historical residences, churches and landscape. The event, welcomed by Mayor Gabrielle De Marco, was attended by Francesco Alfieri, President of the Province of Salerno, Rosa Maria Vitola, Officer in charge of the Demoethno-anthropological Area and Intangible Assets of the ABAP Superintendency of Salerno and Avellino, Attilio Dursi, Deputy Director of the Contemporary Arts Centre, Prof. Milva Scarpa with students of the Liceo Classico Parmenese and the students of the Liceo Classico Parmenese. ssa Milva Scarpa with the students of the Liceo Classico Parmenide di Vallo della Lucania, Giusy Rinaldi, a member of the Centro Contemporaneo delle Arti, Giulia Santonicola, a trainee at the Soprintendenza, lawyer Maria Luisa Lanzara and the local community.

The presence of so many young people and all the participants contributed significantly to the success of the day and made the occasion instructive and stimulating as well as enjoyable.
